Happy Fourth

Happy Fourth, originally uploaded by kendoman26.

The Fourth has come and gone and all the fireworks by now have been blown up. It's been an intersting week. On Monday night I had to call the fire department because there was smoke in the hallway. They best determined it was caused by fireworks thrown in the hall.

Then my 4th of July was hampered by lack of power. I guess the wiring got loose. shrug.

It's better to be safe when you see smoke. I was greeted one time by smoke at work (right after a tornado warning kept us all in the basement for an hour). I tried to track down the source, but someone called the fire department anyway. Turns out it was the electrical parts of a water fountain compressor. I unplugged it - but nobody believed me until I plugged it back in and waited 5 minutes. Bingo - I was right.

It was sort of scary to hear that alarm go out and then see smoke. Since the door was cool I opened it, closed it and then called 911. I then had to decide if I wanted to walk through the smoke or walk out my bedroom window onto the fire escape. Yes this is one old building that has those metal escapes on the front. Since the smoke was sort of light I walked out the door and by the time I got downstairs the fire department had arrived. Two minute response time kudos to the CFD.

As I watched from across the street they brought the ladder to the roof and I could see them looking for sources of fire. Thankfully they didn't find anything. I felt sort of bad for getting them all out here, but I guess that's their job. I had to answer some questions to the officer and that was that. I didn't sleep very well that night :(
